Work Related Personal Injury

Besides the most common type of personal injury claims there are a multitude of types of accident and the term "personal injury" also included are:

Medical accidents

Dental accidents (which lead to numerous medical and dental negligence claims every year) and other dangerous work conditions which are often classified as industrial disease cases.

Industrial disease type cases include:

asthma, chronic bronchitis, asbestosis and mesothelioma, chest diseases (e.g. emphysema, pneumoconiosis, silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic obstructive airways disease), and one you may not have heard of but it is very real...

Vibration white finger --If you have been diagnosed with Vibration White Finger, or you may fear you might develop it, and learn about prevention and treatments. Vibration White Finger build up over continued use of equipment and is a cumulative disorder. They say: "There is no cure once you have developed it."

A Cause of Vibration White Finger

Vibration white finger is a repetitive stress injury caused by exposure of the hands to vibrating equipment. The cause should be easy to determine if you are using heavy vibrating equipment.

Episodes of vascular spasms that cause the white finger are usually triggered by exposure to cold or by contact to cold surfaces. Controlling the triggering cause can go a long way to reducing symptoms.

Prevention of vibration white finger There are some preventative measures you can take to ward of this syndrome. Remember to keep hands warm to keep blood flowing and wear gloves when possible.

If you use vibrating equipment on a regular basis you are at risk for developing vibration white finger.

* Avoid smoking or other drugs or substances that inhibit blood flow. Have a good circulation of blood is important

* Use sound ergonomic equipment that reduce vibration transference to the hands.

* Use special, safety vibration absorbing gloves or pads. Gel padding is better than foam padding for protecting against vibration.

* Hold equipment with your hand and fingers loosely.

* Work in short durations with frequent breaks. Take at least one 12 minute break every hour.

There is also these work related conditions: occupational deafness, occupational stress, contact dermititus, and repetitive strain injury cases.

Occupational stress --In 1997, four industries accounted for the bulk of occupational stress cases: services, manufacturing, retail trade, and finance, insurance, and real estate. Contact dermititus and cuts -- Exposing a wound to the air so it can breathe is a terrible mistake, experts say, because it creates a dry environment that promotes cell death. Some important studies have found that when wounds are kept moist and covered, blood vessels regenerate and heal faster. Repetitive strain injury cases -- News Report--Upper limb pain and dysfunction caused by repetitive physical work, commonly known as repetitive strain injury (RSI), is not a new phenomenon and has been well documented for 300 years in jobs such as clerical work. However, from the late 1970s many countries including Australia, Russia, Japan, the US and the UK reported quite dramatic increases in musculoskeletal conditions; this period of time was significant as it saw the widespread replacement of typewriters with computers and a consequent increase in the automation of work..
